This week, 6B have been thinking about people we admire, starting with those we admire from films and comics and focusing on superheroes. In English, we have started reading the story ‘Traction Man is Here’ and the children have worked together to answer comprehension questions about the start of the story. Using this as a starting point, the children have been working hard to create their own superhero photo comic strip.
The children have created their own superheroes, building a lego model of their hero and writing down their fantastic ideas about the heroes in their English books. In art the children have built themselves a set for their comic story to take place around, first looking at some famous landmarks from around the UK to give them inspiration, then using recycled junk to build their model. Finally, using some other toys from the classroom, 6B have used the DSLR cameras to set up the different scenes for their comic strips and taken photographs of each one, putting these together and writing out their comic book story.
The children have taken part in their usual handwriting, speaking & listening and phonics activities, as well as learning about personal independence and healthy eating by cooking mini-quiches in the cookery room – hopefully some of these made them home to you all! Last of all the children have started thinking about some modern people we admire, looking at the work of David Attenborough and creating stick insects with natural materials in the garden. Another great week for 6B!
