This week in Beech Class, we have been learning all about some of our most famous children’s authors. Our main focus was Road Dahl. Along with the rest of the school, we also took part in all of the wonderful activities and fun, to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. We wish all of you a relaxing half term holiday.
This week B8 have been looking at Myths and Legends. In particular we have looked at the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Each child chose a Knight to draw and make a shield. We watched the film of the Sword in the Stone to bring the story to life. The children wrote questions to ask King Arthur and we did some role play so they could ask their questions. We also made wanted posters for Arthur when he took the sword from the stone.
B8 are also learning a song to celebrate the train, which they will be singing next week, they have also learnt to use Makaton for the chorus.
B8 enjoyed a visit to the Angel of The North, they sat and drew their own version of the Angel and took wax rubbings. The children’s behaviour was exceptional, a couple of visitors stopped to speak and said how well behaved they were. We also hung sunflowers on the trees to show our support for the Ukraine, the sunflower is their national emblem of hope and unity. On returning back at school we had an English Tea Party with bone china cups and cakes.
B8 Cedar class have enjoyed listening to and making up their own stories this week, we particularly enjoyed World book day we decorated our door in the theme of the BFG. The BFG collected dreams and we drew and wrote about our own collections.
In Cedar class we have loved our topic ‘Jurassic World’ finding out about dinosaurs, where, when and how they lived. We have completed lots of craft activities including designing our own dinosaur. We wrote our own clues to guess the dinosaur and find the matching fossils. We were Palaeontologists for a day (like Mary Anning) and discovered what kind of dinosaurs were in the eggs. We have listened to lots of stories and facts. We drew life sized dinosaurs outside in the yard and compared how big they were to ourselves. We measured our own bodies and found out who had the longest and tallest.
We have researched the continents and oceans of the world and talked about how we can be environmentalists and look after our planet, we have tried to show how the world is changing in our science experiments e.g. how the ice caps are melting and why. We are going to end our topic with a dinosaur themed afternoon with dinosaur piñata, food and games. They have had some great ideas for the names of their party food.
