This week B11 got creative making paper mache Dinosaur eggs!
This week in B10, we concluded our Prehistoric topic by having our very own dinosaur egg hunt. We learned about how paleontologists have to be very patient, and chip away at rock, slowly and carefully, so that they don’t damage any fossils that may be hiding underneath. We were excited when our patience paid off and the dinosaur within the eggs were revealed. In P.E this week we were playing dodgeball! Our throwing and dodging skills continue to improve so we are able to play more competitive matches. We have also been learning about the importance of sportsmanship, and why it is important to be gracious in both victory; and defeat.
This week the children had a special valentine’s big breakfast on Monday, then made chocolate covered cake pops to take home. We have been learning all about the Hindu religion, researching and fact finding about their amazing Gods and Goddess. As it is coming up to half term the children have been understanding how to keep themselves safe and making yummy rice krispie traffic lights and practicing how to cross the road safely. Willow class hopes you all have a wonderful holiday and we can’t wait to welcome you all back, in the new term.

In Purple Class this week, we have delved further into the different periods of dinosaurs, and even looked at life after dinosaurs. We created a timeline which showed the different periods, and created a freeze frame of the evolution of humans, which was good fun! We even made our own time machines to take a step back in time!
We talked about the friendship between Arlo and Spot, and the qualities of a good friend. We finished the week by talking about the changing seasons, and created some lovely pieces of art on canvases.
We have thoroughly enjoyed this topic, and can’t wait for our last week!

This week Willow class have been learning all about tectonic plates, the movement of our continents, from our time as Pangaea to the Jurassic period and to how our world looks now! We have been building our continents in the sand tray and watching how the seas moved around the land. We looked at the inner core, and the earth’s layers and the Earth’s crust. The children have painted some beautiful paintings of the skies as the world was ending for the dinosaurs, AWWW.

We had some great news this week, RW Mann Trust have kindly donated to the train project. Thank you so much, this will go towards developing out STEM carriage.
Also a big thank you to Mr Holmes who kindly made a donation to help. On this note we have created a ‘Just Giving’ campaign to help raise £10,000 to aid in the carriage development. If you would like to donate please go to https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/thedales-school.
Thank you to Ian Levy and the chronicle for appealing to the public to help the train project https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/dales-school-blyth-pacer-train-22947145
We had a trip to Kirkmerrington School in County Durham. They showed us around their Class 142 Pacer train. We wish you all the best for your project. We are looking forward to Lesley visiting Blythdale to see our Train.
More exciting news to come next week.
This week in B10, we continued our investigation about the Prehistoric world. We learned all about the life of fossil hunter; Mary Anning, and how her contributions to the study of dinosaurs were almost forgotten about, due to the fact she was a woman! Thankfully today we know about her huge contributions in the study of dinosaurs. We also made our own dinosaur calzone pizzas. We also finished the week by writing our very own information report all about dinosaurs. Make sure to have a look at what we have read on our Assessment for Learning platform.
This week in B12 we had our first class trip out! We visited The Angel of the North in the morning and stopped off at Saltwell Park for dinner in the afternoon. We played in the park, had an ice cream with all the sauces and a flake, and saw millions of squirrels!

In Cedar class we have loved our topic ‘Jurassic World’ finding out about dinosaurs, where, when and how they lived. We have completed lots of craft activities including designing our own dinosaur. We wrote our own clues to guess the dinosaur and find the matching fossils. We were Palaeontologists for a day (like Mary Anning) and discovered what kind of dinosaurs were in the eggs. We have listened to lots of stories and facts. We drew life sized dinosaurs outside in the yard and compared how big they were to ourselves. We measured our own bodies and found out who had the longest and tallest.
We have researched the continents and oceans of the world and talked about how we can be environmentalists and look after our planet, we have tried to show how the world is changing in our science experiments e.g. how the ice caps are melting and why. We are going to end our topic with a dinosaur themed afternoon with dinosaur piñata, food and games. They have had some great ideas for the names of their party food.
