This week B13 enjoyed horse riding, learning how to tack up a horse and using the reins to steer their horse, while riding at a quicker pace.
Huge congratulations to our new Rebound Therapy team. Everyone passed the 2 day course this week, meaning we have an opportunity to roll out this great therapy to even more of our Dales children. Our team will create bespoke pupil profiles, engage children in sensory regulation and enjoy intensive interaction sessions amongst a lot of fun.
Well done our bouncing buddies. We look forward to regular online updates to see our new, improved school Therapy offer.
This week B14 have been learning all about one of the most famous boxers in the world Muhammad Ali and the swinging 60’s. The children have been on a rocket to the moon, had their first moon walk, and watched the first man step foot on the moon as well as learning all about the phases of the moon from earth and with Jaffa cakes! It’s been out of this world!
We have also looked at the influential people, music, and fashion of the time. Discussing Black rights and the beginning the civil rights movement for equality and banning racial discrimination.
It’s been a busy week!
Two Classes went on a special visit to Aln Valley Railway. We looked at the steam engines and had a ride on their Pacer train. We looked at a viaduct built by Robert Stephenson and also sat on a Harry Potter style coach. Aln Valley have also been helping us with our Pacer train and helped by taking out the seats.
This week, green class have been learning about Northern Ireland.
On Monday we investigated some Irish folklore and discussed how these stories are different from our own. We completed our weekly escape room and created some Irish folklore characters of our own.
On Tuesday we spent the morning completing our models of famous UK landmarks in art. We assessed our models and completed some evaluation forms of the amazing work we have done so far. We then did some amazing coding work, adding some animations to the characters we created on Monday.
On Wednesday we did our weekly CSI challenge to start off the day. We then baked some Irish cookies for our St. Patricks day celebrations on Thursday.
On Thursday and Friday we had some St. Patrick’s day and red nose day celebrations and explored the local environment and land use around the school.
This week we have been learning all about Scotland, and our theme was Disney’s Brave. We have looked at the main cities of Scotland, researched our coat of arms and weaved some lovely kilts! We baked some delicious shortbread and created our own stories based on the legend of the Loch Ness Monster! We took a step back in time and looked at what life would have been like during the Vikings times. We designed our own Viking long ships and helmets, and learned how to spell our names in runes! We have had a fantastic week in class this week. What will we learn about next week…?
Purple Class had a fantastic week last week. We studied the book, ‘Tom and the Dinosaur Egg’, and discussed how we would protect an egg if we had our own. We set sail on miniature rafts, testing materials that would float or sink, and found out whether our predictions were correct. We made some delicious dinosaur islands, made out of brownies and some realistic islands made out of Modroc.
The children are having a roarsome time learning about dinosaurs, we are looking forward to seeing what is in store next week!
This half term we are getting very exciting for Christmas! We are thinking about ‘Toys and Electricity’, which ones we like and how we can move them.
This week we have been looking at teddies and dolls. We have had a tea party with our dolls, made delicious jam sandwiches and served cups of tea. We have listened to the story of Goldilocks and explored porridge oats, filling and emptying our bowls. We have made sure to take great care of our dolls. They seemed to love a nice bath and cuddle from all of B2!
Our theme this half term is ‘Growing and Changing’. Ocean Class have been working hard to explore each of our senses – touching, tasting, seeing and hearing. Each week we have key songs and stories that relate to our ‘sense of the week’.
This week we have been focusing on hearing. Key songs have included ‘Do your ears hang low?’, ‘I hear thunder’ and ‘Old MacDonald’. We have enjoyed exploring a range of loud and quite sensory materials and each day we choose an instrument for our music and movement session. Our key story is ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ and children have enjoyed touching bears and moving them around the classroom. We explored our own tuff tray forest and children were excellent at finding (and eating!) the edible bears!
